Dental Fillings
Dental cavities are the permanent damage caused on the surface of the tooth by constant bacterial action. The acid released by bacteria starts destroying the tooth. Dental decay is the most common health problem affecting the masses.
How would you know if you have dental cavities?
- Black discoloration on the surface of the tooth.
- If left untreated it may cause a dip on the surface of the tooth.
- Pain while chewing
- Sensitivity in a particular tooth.
How can you treat dental cavities?
Dental cavities if detected early can be treated with the help of Dental fillings.
Dental fillings are materials that are used to fill the tooth back after cleaning the dental decay.
What are the different materials used for the repair of the decayed tooth?
- Gold: A very durable filling material. The filling is made up of an alloy that has gold, copper, and other metals for strength. This is an expensive filling and lasts in the mouth for a very long time.
- Amalgam: One of the oldest materials used for fillings. This is a combination of silver alloy mixed with mercury. This is commonly known as ’silver filling’. This is a very strong filling, not used often now due to its colour.
- Composites: These are resin-based filling materials. These are most widely used these days for fillings in both anterior and posterior teeth. They form a part of cosmetic dental treatment. They can match the different shades of the teeth. Composite fillings bond with the tooth.
- GIC: This is a white coloured filling material. It is not as widely used as composites. This comes in one standard shade and has less strength than all of the materials mentioned above. It can be used in cases where composites cannot be used due to isolation issues.
Madhav Multispecialty Dental Clinic has a rich expertise and we perform all types of dental fillings at the clinic.
How expensive are the dental fillings?
The cost of dental fillings depends upon the:
- Type of material used
- A tooth that has to be filled
We provide cost-effective and durable fillings at our clinic. We have been successfully doing fillings for all our patients for a long time now.
How much is the shelf life of fillings?
Different materials have different shelf lives in the patient’s mouth. While Gold lasts for the longest time followed by amalgam and composite. GIC filling has short durability.
What other cosmetic treatments are done at the clinic?
Dr. Ritika Wadhwani has been constantly upgrading her skills for a long time now. She had ventured into the art of cosmetic dentistry around a decade back. She and her staff have been delivering beautiful smiles to a lot of patients.
We provide treatment for:
- Fractured or chipped teeth
- Stained or yellowish teeth
- Discoloured teeth
- Fluoride stains
- Overlapped or crowded teeth
- To close the spaces between the teeth
The various cosmetic treatments provided at the clinic are:
- Bleaching: Bleaching is done to lighten the natural shade of the teeth. The bleaching agents primarily contain hydrogen or carbamide peroxides. Bleaching can be done at home with tooth whitening pastes or gels. These methods however do not provide the desired results. The number of peroxides in-home bleaching agents could be somewhere between 5%-20%. In-office bleaching contains 15%-43% peroxide content.
Bleaching can be done for the removal of both extrinsic stains and intrinsic stains. Extrinsic stains are caused by the consumption of tobacco, coffee, and tea.
Intrinsic stains could be due to some birth defects as amelogenesis imperfect or fluorosis etc.
- Veneers: These are thin and shell-like. They are tooth-coloured and can be fixed to the tooth without altering much of the natural structure of teeth. They can be used to treat spacing in between teeth, discoloured teeth, and chipped teeth.
Veneers are of two types:
- Composite Veneers: These can be fabricated at the clinic itself.
- Porcelain veneers: The preparation can be done at the clinic and the moulds can be sent to the lab. The lab can fabricate porcelain veneers and they can be fixed to the teeth. More invasive but highly durable.
- No prep veneers: Lumineers and vivaneers are no-prep veneers and they are least invasive.
- Gummy smile correction: Some people have a large gingival coverage and only a small portion of the teeth is visible. The correction of such defects can be done with the help of chair-side minor surgical procedures as gingivoplasty and gingivectomy.
- Smile correction: At times people could have crowded or widely spaced teeth. In either case, the natural smile is hampered. We do complete smile designing with the help of orthodontic treatment if required or with the help of veneers or crowns and bridges.
- Depigmentation of gums: Genetics and ethnicity can contribute to different shades of the gums. Some people have highly pigmented gums. Well, this can also be corrected with the help of gum depigmentation.
