- Pus drainage or a sinus formation around the tooth
- Inflammation around a tooth associated with pain

What is a root canal procedure?
A root canal is a treatment that eliminates the bacteria from an infected tooth. A root canal prevents the re-infection of the tooth and ultimately saves your natural tooth and makes it functional again.
How is a root canal done?
Our natural tooth is made up of three layers. The outermost is the enamel, the middle layer is called the dentine and the innermost layer is called the pulp. The pulp has nerves and blood vessels in it and is responsible for the sensation in the tooth.
The bacterium invades and starts the degeneration. When left untreated, it seeps deep down into the dentin and then finally reaches the pulp. Whenever you experience pain with a tooth, the infection has reached the pulp.
Once the infection reaches the pulp there are only two ways to stop the spread of infection and pain. The tooth should either be treated with a root canal or it should be extracted.
Steps of the root canal procedure:
- Thorough investigations: Whenever a patient arrives at the clinic, we do the required investigations. There are two types of investigations:
Clinical investigations: The tooth is examined to know the extent of the damage and condition of the tooth. As per requirement, we can carry out a vitality test.
Radiographic investigations: We are equipped with the facility of digital radiographs. It gives us an edge because of its higher accuracy. The radiograph helps us plan our treatment plan well in advance,
- Removal of the infected pulp tissue: The tooth is anesthetized and the tooth is cleaned and freed of the infection.
- Cleaning and shaping: After the infected pulp is removed, the tooth is cleaned with the help of intracanal medications and solutions to avoid any re-infection in the future. The canals are shaped to receive the filling material.
- Filling: After the complete cleaning and disinfection of the canal, the canal is ready to get filled. A biocompatible material is filled inside the canal. This material seals with the help of a biocompatible sealer. A well-sealed and filled canal negates the chances of reinfection.

We carry out all our procedures under anesthesia. The patient does not feel any pain during the whole procedure. We have been doing painless root canals for a long time now.
A root canal is a very tedious process and requires lots of visits
A lot of visits for a root canal are a thing of the past. We perform root canals in either one or two sittings with the modern equipment available at our clinic.
My tooth does not hurt, I do not need a root canal now
Well, most of the times pain is a reason to treat the tooth for a root canal procedure but many times the accumulated pus or infection does not pain and causes massive damage to the tooth or the underlying bone. This situation demands a root canal treatment immediately.
I am pregnant so I cannot undergo a root canal
We understand your concerns regarding pregnancy. We avoid most of the procedures in pregnancy but if the patient is in pain and requires immediate attention, then we carry out an emergency root canal to give relief to the patient.
